SingTel launches public enterprise cloud service in Hong Kong

Wednesday, Jul 11, 2012

Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) today announced
the launch of its award-winning cloud computing service, PowerON Compute in Hong Kong. PowerON Compute is SingTel's cloud solution which provides on-demand ICT solutions and services to help businesses to lower their IT costs, increase productivity and improve agility.

Powered by VMware, PowerON Compute Hong Kong ensures the security of customer’s data in SingTel’s state-of-the-art data centre in Hong Kong. As with the PowerON Compute cloud services in Singapore and Australia, PowerON Compute Hong Kong is a hybrid enterprise-class cloud service which provides computing resources that can be accessed by either a public internet connection or through a private secured network.

Enterprises pay only a monthly subscription fee to use PowerON Compute. This means that businesses do not need to worry about additional heavy capex investments on servers and maintenance cost when they consider taking on new projects or when it comes to seasonal
peaks. PowerON Compute Hong Kong allows enterprises to scale up or down their usage of computing resources - rapidly and on demand - allowing them to use their financial resources more efficiently and productively to focus on core business goals and to also pursue other business opportunities.

The launch of PowerON Compute Hong Kong is part of SingTel’s initiative to roll out a federated cloud network linking Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong in the third quarter of 2012. With data centres in Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong, the federated cloud network will enlarge SingTel’s cloud footprint in Asia Pacific. This will offer customers a greater choice of locations from which to host their data so that they can be located closer to their regional operations.

The pan-Asia coverage of the federated cloud will offer enterprises the convenience of dealing with a single cloud provider for a range of services. Customers can enjoy a one-stop convenience for negotiating a single contract for multiple geographies, buying the required cloud solutions, billing and liaising with a single point of contact, regardless of location.

Mr Bill Chang, SingTel’s Managing Director, Business Group, Group ICT, said: “With the launch of the PowerON Compute Hong Kong, SingTel is bringing our proven cloud services and solutions closer to our enterprise customers in Hong Kong. The close proximity to our customers in Hong Kong reduces latency in our cloud services.”

“By networking our federated cloud in Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong in the third quarter of 2012, we can deliver seamless and reliable cloud service to help our enterprise customers drive their growth in productivity, lower capital expenditure and enhance their agility. The launch of PowerON Compute Hong Kong is a key strategy in entrenching SingTel’s position as the leading cloud service provider which delivers seamless and true enterprise-grade cloud services in the Asia Pacific region,” he said.

SingTel’s cloud services have garnered multiple industry awards. SingTel was awarded the Telecom Cloud Service Provider of the Year at the 2012 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific ICT Award. SingTel was presented the Best Cloud Service award by Asia Communication Awards in 2012, having also won the award in 2011. At the Network World Asia Information Management Awards 2012, SingTel was conferred the award for Best Security-as-a-Service.

According to Gartner, Hong Kong enterprises are projected to spend HK$106.4 million (US$13.7 million) on virtualization infrastructure software this year, up 14.9% over 20111. For more information on PowerON Compute, please visit http://info.singtel.com/large- enterprise/cloud-computing-poweron.
