RAE Systems Introduces New Generation of Fixed Systems

Wednesday, Jul 01, 2009

RAE Systems Inc., a leader in delivering innovative sensor solutions to serve industrial, energy, environmental, and government safety markets worldwide, introduced new fixed flammable and toxic gas detection solutions. The new fixed toxic gas monitoring systems include the RAEGuard(R) S(TM) sensor module and three scalable controllers. Target applications include wastewater treatment plants, petroleum processing, natural gas fields, chemical plants, paper mills, power plants and steel mills. Also in place are applications and engineering support teams that will provide technical assistance in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions.

"This new family of hardwired toxic and flammable gas detectors, in combination with our wireless semi-permanent solutions such as MeshGuard(R), gives RAE Systems unique product lines to support existing customers and new markets with cost-efficient solutions," said Jesper Jensen, RAE Systems' fixed products manager. "Our S-series fixed monitors give users the advantage of smart sensor modules that can be remotely calibrated and connected to our wireless network."

The RAEGuard S is a permanently installed single-gas detector available for a range of gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), chlorine (Cl2), combustible gases (LEL), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), methane (CH4), oxygen (O2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). It is a flexible detector head that provides analog (4-20mA) or digital (RS-485, ModBus, RTU) signals. The RAEGuard S uses a "smart" sensor module that can be calibrated offline. It can be packaged in an explosion-proof, stainless-steel enclosure, making it ideal for hazardous environments. All models include a digital display for viewing gas concentration readings and alarms.

The FM-60 Controller is a cost efficient controller with standard 16-channel 4-20 mA inputs and 64 addressable inputs. The FMC-60 has been designed to operate in the full range of environments from commercial premises to heavy industrial applications that may require hazardous-area sensing. The FMC-60 system operates on a 4-core (addressable) and/or 2/3-core (direct) cable network and has the capacity to monitor up to 64 addressable and 16 direct sensors of various gas types.

The FMC-40, 1-to 4-channel gas alarm operates on single-channel plug-and-play cards and has been designed to operate in a full range of environments from commercial premises to heavy industrial applications that may require hazardous-area sensing. FMC-40 system applications include steel mills, wastewater treatment plants, LPG storage facilities, paint spray booths, chemical plants, chemical storage facilities, aircraft hangars and boiler rooms.

The FMC-10 is a fixed single-point alarm unit that meets the requirements for economical and reliable monitoring of gas levels in a wide range of environments, including applications that may require hazardous-area sensing. Typical monitor locations include public buildings, plant boiler rooms, swimming pools, and water treatment facilities, as well as light manufacturing and processing plants.
