Tatara Systems, a company delivering Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) (SIP)-based solution for femtocell network integration, has sold part of its mobile broadband product line to California-based communications solution provider Smith Micro Software. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As per the deal, Smith Micro Software acquired assets associated with Tatara Service Manager client software and the client management solution Tatara Subscriber Gateway (News - Alert). Smith Micro also assumed responsibility of Tatara’s facility in Vancouver, Canada.

E.Y. Snowden, chairman and CEO of Tatara Systems (News - Alert) commented that the transaction enables Tatara to monetize the value of its mobile broadband products to apply those resources to femtocell convergence and applications enablement. Femtocell, or micro cellular access points, promises to improve mobile voice coverage and deliver enhanced services to home and business users, while dramatically reducing cost.
